Chapter 12 Assignment

Select 2-3 state standards in reading or math for your grade level. Design 2-3 assignment options for each to post.

    Standard 1: Reading NINTH - TWELFTH GRADES
    Reading: The student reads and comprehends text across the curriculum.
    Benchmark 3: The student expands vocabulary.

    Assignment 2: Students follow instructions to complete activity sheet

    Benchmark 4: The student comprehends a variety of texts (narrative, expository, technical, and persuasive).

  3. Reading - 8th grade 1.3.4 - Identifies and determines the meaning of figurative language. We made an acronym to use. SAMI SOPHI.
    Assignment 1: Find song lyrics that represent the nine figurative language components.
    Assignment 2: Look for poems/short stories for the nine pieces. (We used the "Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar A. Poe).
    1.4.8 Explain cause-effect relationships.
    Assignment 1: Using real-life components of current weather, give examples of cause-effect. (Cold temperature - frozen pipes, cars not starting)
    Assignment 2: Research School reform and find 3 reasons that need to be improved. ( Tenure process, poor teachers, charter schools).
    Gail, I think they used a quote of yours. On page 93, "After all, no one said that special ed modifications can be offered only to special education students!" I remember you saying this several times.

    Assignment 1: Student will log the 8am, Noon, and 3pm temperature daily for the week and then create a line graph with the data. Student's can also take the temperatures and put them in a steam and leaf plot to show frequency of numbers.
    Assignment 2: Student will take a survey of the class's favorite pizza toppings and display the results in a bar graph.

    using concrete objects in a variety of situations.
    5. identifies coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters) and currency ($1, $5, $10) and states the value of each coin and each type of currency using money models 6. recognizes and counts a like group of coins (pennies, nickels, dimes)
    Assignment 1: student will take a grocery store flier and pick item to purchase using coins will make the change needed to purchase item.
    Assignment 2: Student will play a game of money bingo the teacher will hold up the coin and the student will have to find the corresponding amount on their card.
